What you wear to the club can be controversial, including our hair. Braids are the latest style deemed inappropriate for a night out, but we show you how they're are suitable for every occasion.

“When my friends invite me out to the club, knowing I have braids in” is the caption to a viral TikTok. The sound accompanying it is “I ain’t going”, a clip from Always N Forever by Mariah the Scientist.

With half a million views, 70 thousand likes and over two thousand comments it has sparked discourse on TikTok. Why would someone feel like they can’t wear braids to the club?

Hundreds of “side eye” comments flooded the comment section. (meaning to look at someone sideways because what they said makes no sense). Other creators stitched the video to give explanations as to why this idea is problematic.

One creator captioned her stitch: “If you genuinely believe you can’t wear braids to the club you need to reevaluate the beauty standard you are adhering to”.

In the spirit of reevaluating beauty standards, here are some ways to wear braids to the club:

Down with a side part:

This is a classic that you can’t go wrong with, you can flip between middle and side parts and is an effortless look.

Ponytail with a swoop:

It's sleek, out of your face and perfect for when the night gets too hot.

Half up half down:

It's a happy medium, you hair can be out of your face and have the drama of being down

High Bun:

Not necessarily the most creative, but it is perfect for the end of the night, when it's time to get food and you want your hair out of the way.

Its the end of the night, waiting for the last train home, pictured in hand is a chicken patty and ginger and sorrel drink
