The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer has been blowing our hair straight since 2016, but the rest of the tools are still making waves on TikTok. Our features editor Nia J Hope went to the Dyson salon to see if it lived up to the expectations.

TikTokers swear by Dyson hair tools. Videos hashtagged #dysonairwrap have amassed over 3.9BN views. The salon is just minutes away from Marble Arch station, where you can book yourself in for a bouncy blowdry for £35. Although all slots are currently booked, be vigilant for cancellations. Don’t be tempted by the Dyson vacuum or air humidifier you’ll pass on your way in. I was offered a coffee upon entry, although later appointments are accompanied with prosecco - I missed out as it was 11am.

Wash- 5/5

The stylist began by washing my hair and giving a lovely head massage. Walking back to my seat, I catch myself in the mirror and I’m pleasantly surprised to see my curls defined in a way that I can never pull off at home.

Wash day is the least enjoyable day of my week, so to have someone else wash my hair to a good standard will always be a win. My stylist recommended Aveda products that have made wash day more bearable.

Blow-dry-3/5

I requested to try the Airwrap as it’s the most popular tool, although my stylist thought the Supersonic would do a better job. He used the smoothing brush attachment to blow out my hair from wet to dry, but it didn’t quite stretch my hair in the way both of us expected. Afterwards, he used the Supersonic with the wide tooth comb attachment. It quickly blew out any issues we had and prepared my hair for the straighteners.

The Airwrap is not the best tool for my hair and this could've been skipped. However, I was impressed with how quickly the Supersonic stretched my hair and I’ve since replaced my old blow drier.

Straighten- 3/5

My hair was straightened using the cordless Dyson Corrale. My stylist said straighteners are just a styling tool and the real heavy-lifter is the blow dryer. My hair wasn’t perfectly silky straight in the way I normally wear it, so I asked my stylist to work in some curls to compliment the volume.

The Corrale wasn’t able to give me the look that I can get with my GHD’s, but it does work well between washes as the flexing copper plates prevent heat damage.

FINAL LOOK:

Longevity- 1/5

When I left my hair was no match for the wind and by the time I was halfway down Oxford Street I had to tie it up. I’m used to my blowouts lasting at least a week, even when I don't take the best care of them, so for it to barely last 30 minutes with normal wear is disappointing.
